The 1st WSK Sekishinkan Karatedo Championship

3/5/2025

WSK Sekishinkan Karatedo Celebrates a Milestone with Its Inaugural Championship Tournament

In a proud and historic moment for WSK Sekishinkan Karatedo, the dojo successfully hosted its very first championship tournament—the 1st WSK Sekishinkan Karatedo Championship—bringing together athletes, families, instructors, and supporters in a powerful display of martial spirit and community. This event held on April 25, 2025 under the leadership and vision of the Chief Instructor, Henry Chan, this milestone event marked a significant step forward in the dojo’s journey, transforming years of training, discipline, and dedication into an organized and spirited day of competition.

The event ran with remarkable efficiency, a reflection of the countless hours of planning and preparation put in by the organizing team. From managing logistics and safety protocols to coordinating event flow and judging, every element of the championship was handled with care and attention to detail. While minor challenges are always expected in a first-time event, the tournament proceeded without any major issues—a result that even the organizers were pleasantly surprised by. The Chief Instructor credited this to the unwavering commitment and teamwork demonstrated by everyone involved, from instructors and senior students to volunteers and parents.

Beyond its smooth execution, the tournament served as a powerful learning experience for the dojo. Insights gained from the planning and on-the-ground coordination will play a crucial role in shaping future tournaments, with the goal of making them even more structured, engaging, and inclusive. It was also a reminder of the importance of community support and the collective spirit that underpins all successful endeavors.

The highlight of the day, of course, was the athletes. Competitors of all ages and ranks stepped onto the tatami with courage, focus, and humility, embodying the values of traditional karatedo. Their performances—whether seasoned or first-time—were marked by strong spirit, effort, and respect. Every bout, kata, and demonstration reflected not only the technical skill of the participants but also the heart of a dojo that nurtures both character and ability.

In his opening remarks, the Chief Instructor expressed profound gratitude to all who contributed to making the event a success. “This championship was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of our dojo’s growth, our shared values, and the potential of every student who steps into the dojo. We are so proud of each and every athlete who took part today.”

As the mats were cleared and the final bows exchanged, one thing was clear: the 1st WSK Sekishinkan Karatedo Championship was not just a tournament—it was the beginning of a new chapter. With the lessons learned and the inspiration ignited, Sekishinkan looks forward to an even brighter future, grounded in tradition and strengthened by the unity of its community.

Dear Sekishinkan members, parents and fellow instructors,

I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As we embark on a new year of training, I would like to extend a warm welcome to both our new members joining the Sekishinkan family and to our returning members who continue to dedicate themselves to the art of karate.

At Sekishinkan Karate, we are not just practitioners of a martial art; we are part of a long-standing tradition that values discipline, respect, and continuous personal growth. This year, we aim to further our commitment to these principles, enhancing our skills, deepening our understanding, and forging stronger bonds within our community.

Let us all approach this year with an open mind, a strong spirit, and a determination to improve ourselves and our community.
Thank you for being a part of Sekishinkan Karate. Together, let us make this year one of growth, achievement, and unity.

51st Steveston Karate Tournament

2/3/2024

It is an immense pride to announce the remarkable achievements of our dojo's 29 candidates at the 51st Steveston Karate Tournament. Your dedication, perseverance, and spirit have truly shone through, culminating in an impressive medal tally of 6 golds, 9 silvers, and 30 bronzes.

As martial artists, we understand that victory is not solely measured by the color and the number of medals but by the growth and resilience forged in the fires of adversity. So, to those who tasted defeat, I urge you to embrace this moment as an opportunity for growth. Train harder, push further, and believe in your abilities, for the true essence of karate lies not in the outcome of a single tournament but in the unwavering pursuit of self-improvement.

At last, Congratulations and thank you to all of you. May the spirit of karate continue to guide and inspire us all.
