All-Japan Shoseikan Karate-do was founded by our Soke, Katsutoshi Ishihara, in Chiba-Prefecture of Japan in 1968. Ishihara is one of the active students of Gogen Yamaguchi, one of the world famous Karatedo-ka. Since 1971, Ishihara has travelled around the world to promote Shoseikan and Goju-Ryu Karate-do. As a result, World Shoseikan Karate (WSK) was formed and assisting the worldwide Karate development. Currently, we have over 50 Shibu Dojo in Japan, Canada, USA, Hong Kong, India, Pondicherry, Chennai, Dubai, Sri Lanka and Mexico.
In 2006, the first Shoseikan Dojo of Canada (aka WSK Sekishinkan Karate-do) was established in Vancouver, BC by Shihan, Henry Chan (6th Dan) who is the direct student of Kancho Ishihara. In 2007, Kancho Ishihara has officially appointed Shihan Chan to be Chief Instructor of the World Shoseikan Karate Canada Division. With the spirit and knowledge from Kancho Ishihara, Shihan Chan aims to promote Goju-Ryu Karatedo and Shoseikan spirit across Canada and America.
Sekishinkan is World Shoseikan Karate Canada Division and is authorized by Katsutoshi Ishihara, the Chief Master of World Shoseikan Karate-do. Any other clubs using Shoseikan's name in Canada may be un-authorized and does not have the affiliation with WSK.
