WSK Sekishinkan Karate-do Hosts 2025 Annual General Meeting: A Gathering of Spirit and Strength

Vancouver, BC – June 20, 2025 – The World Shoseikan Sekishinkan (WSK Sekishinkan) Karate-do community is gearing up for a pivotal event in its calendar: the 2025 Annual Awards & Celebration, scheduled for Friday, June 20, 2025. This annual assembly brings together members, instructors, and enthusiasts of our traditional Goju-Ryu Karate-do lineage to reflect on achievements, chart the course ahead, and reinforce the core values that define our dojo.

Established in 2006 by Shihan Katsumi Futo, a 7th Dan black belt, WSK Sekishinkan has grown into a beacon for martial arts practitioners in Vancouver and Richmond. Rooted in the hard-soft principles of Goju-Ryu, our organization emphasizes not just physical prowess but holistic development—spirit first, technique second. As we approach the midpoint of the 2025–2026 Karate Year, which kicked off in September with open registrations for all ages, the AGM serves as a vital checkpoint to celebrate progress and align on future goals.

Agenda Highlights: Balance, Growth, and Harmony

The AAAC, set to convene at our Vancouver dojo, which kicks off at 7:00 PM, fosters an evening of purposeful dialogue and shared inspiration. Key items on the agenda include:

  • Announcements: Updates on dojo initiatives, upcoming events, and community outreach efforts, reinforcing our commitment to fostering balance, confidence, and control through Goju-Ryu practice.

  • Karate Demonstration: A showcase of Kihon, Ido, Kata, and Kumite techniques, highlighting the balance and precision honed through constant repetition, embodying the spirit that drives our training.

  • Serving Food: A communal meal to strengthen bonds among members, offering a moment of camaraderie and reflection in the spirit of respect and courtesy central to our dojo.

  • Award Presentation: Recognizing outstanding achievements in skill, spirit, and dedication, celebrating members who exemplify the values of harmony, self-control, and responsibility.

This structure echoes the essence of Goju-Ryu: a harmonious blend of structure and flow, where techniques are refined but the warrior's spirit leads the way.

Why the AAAC Matters: Forging Connections in Karate-do

Beyond formalities, the 2025 AGM is a celebration of community. In a world of fleeting distractions, WSK Sekishinkan stands firm on principles like polite conduct, even in stress and emotional mastery during Kumite. Attendees can expect demonstrations of core techniques, light refreshments, and networking that strengthens our dojo family. As Shihan Katsumi Futo often reminds us, "Spirit forges the way, technique sharpens the path"—a mantra that will inspire our gathering.

As we mark another year of growth, we are here to congratulate all the award recipients.  Together, we'll strike effortlessly, defend wisely, and move forward with unyielding spirit. Osu!
